Domain controller status Unavailable all service are running!

ddfdfWhile being logged on to the new 2008 R2 domain controller and all services are running I could not connect to this domain controller on a AD level.

I wanted to transfer the Schema Master role to this new server but when i opened the Operation Master (from Active Directory Schema) i could not change it because i was not connected to the server to the server i self. But to the server holding the roll at the time.

When i wanted to connect to the server itself i saw the status unavailable.

This happens when you disable IPv6 on the network card on a DC.

the solution for this is to add or change a registry entry.

open regedit go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\ open the DisabledComponents item. If the item is not there than make one (DWORD (32-Bits) value. and give it one of the following values:

Type 0 to enable all IPv6 components. (Windows default setting)  Type 0xffffffff to disable all IPv6 components, except the IPv6 loopback interface. This value also configures Windows Vista to use Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) instead of IPv6 in prefix policies. Type 0×20 to use IPv4 instead of IPv6 in prefix policies. Type 0×10 to disable native IPv6 interfaces. Type 0×01 to disable all tunnel IPv6 interfaces. Type 0×11 to disable all IPv6 interfaces except for the IPv6 loopback interface.

I gave it the 0xffffffff value and after a reboot the ?problem?was solved.
